The Relationship Between Resilience and Personality Traits in Doctors: Implications for Enhancing Well-Being
The following study examined the relationship of resilience to personality traits and resilience in doctors in order to identify the key traits that promote or impair resilience. The results show strong to medium positive correlations between resilience and self-directness, persistence, and cooperativeness and negative correlations with harm and avoidance. Individual differences in personality explain 39% of the variance in resilience. The study concludes resilience was associated with a personality trait pattern that is mature, responsible, optimistic, persevering, and cooperative and advocates for strategies that enhance resilience.
